I am a registered adult nurse, qualifying from the University of Milan in 1992.聽 On graduating, I worked in Milan within the areas of acute care: A & E, Acute Medical ward, and Emergency operating theatres.
I moved to Scotland in 2003 to work in long-term residential care and acute hospital clinical areas. In 2007 I gained the SPQ in perioperative practice, in 2010 the SVQ level 3 in management of human resources and in 2017 an MSc in Advanced Practice (perioperative care).
I still practice clinical and leadership nursing skills by working flexible hours in trauma theatres at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
Within my academic role, I collaborate with the Lydia Plus Osteoporosis Project (LOP) team. The LOP aims to increase awareness of osteoporosis amongst healthcare staff and to investigate the implication of osteoporosis for moving and handling practices. We are taking a comprehensive approach and launching several initiatives to consider osteoporosis from a person-centred perspective and to recognise osteoporosis as a public health priority.

My interest is in promoting and delivering a good quality of care that focuses on a person-centred approach.
I am a part-time PhD student in the 鈥淪afeguarding Health through Infection Prevention鈥 research team (SHIP) within the School of Health and Life Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University. My research project aims to understand patients鈥 experiences of being in isolation for infection prevention and control in the hospital or being cared for in an 鈥渁ll single room鈥 hospital.
